"This one was a bitch", as George R.R. Martin once
put it.
I started out in October 2009. It literally took weeks to
put down all the parts, since I had no previous tabs to
work with, which was again complicated by the 1 step
down tuning. Since the bass guitar is very quiet at
certain parts, I'm pretty sure its not 100% true to the
original song - but still sounds good in my humble
opinion. Getting the drums accurately was a
completely different story, with the original song being
pretty dull and not the best recording quality (which
isn't surprising, considering it is from a demo), and with
some strange - to say the least - fills that John Haughm
did.
But my love of Agalloch kept my enthusiasm with me
all along :) I completed all the parts in January 2010,
then sent the tab to fellow music-worshipper Dniel
Varga, who was kind enough to correct the drum
track. I must say he did some grand work, and I am
very thankful for his help. By early March, the tab was
ready.
So here it is, one of my personal favourites, the
fantastic finale of Agalloch's "From Which Of This
Oak". Feel free to contact me on the e-mail address
given above.
Lyrics:
I walked in the shadows
'neath an azure midnight sky
I walked in the shadows
To abscond a life not my own
I walked in the night
This life I hate
Destroy this life, the life I hate
Return me to the womb
Thy crystalline will
Has finally shattered
As spring rain paints itself
On the canvas of youth
It's snowing still in my heart
Will I ride the summer winds
Or dance upon the crimson horizon
Will I find paradise in hell?
If I go deep into the woods
If I go to this cabin
As scarlet flowers lust for the dew of morning
And infants nurse on the nectar of motherhood
As prophets of ruin wield their swords of wisdom
And battle forth towards a brighter dawn
Take me away from here
...Falling...
...Soaring...
If I go deep into the woods
If I go to this cabin
If I go deep into the woods
If I go will you follow?
...Falling...
...Soaring...
Take me away from here
(This blood) on my hands
To celebrate my passing
My soul shall bleed
For eternity
...in silence...
